Sandia Lakes Recreation Area
PUEBLO OF SANDIA, NEW MEXICO
The Sandia Lakes Recreation Area was originally built in the 1980’s and has been operated as a commercial fishery since its inception. The facility consisted of five fishing lakes totaling about 15 surface acres, a general store, pavilions, restrooms, and a children’s playground.
ACI was contracted to design and renovate the entire recreation area. The renovation included dredging, cleaning, reshaping, and lining of the lakes as well as construction of a large corporate pavilion, fish holding facility, fish cleaning station, fishing shelters, restrooms, a new playground, and a re-facing of the general store. All mechanical and electrical infrastructure were also included in the renovation. The finished product resulted in three beautiful fishing lakes totaling over 19 surface acres with all of the amenities needed to create a memorable day for Sandia’s guests.
